January 30, 2014

I went to one of my most favorite places this evening. Of course, I had to turn the car around and head home not nearly halfway there and grab my camera and head back out, but I finally made it to the library, camera in hand.

I love books. Love, love, love books. My ideal vacation would be me locked in a room alone with books. Ok, perhaps being locked alone in a room is a bit much. Maybe… having a warm beach to myself surrounded by books? That would do.

I get this stupid giddy feeling when I’m in a library. Any library.  It feels like I’m standing in the center of the universe. I suppose in some respects I am. My girls love the library and love books, too. That’s one thing for certain I can say that we did right as parents.

So, to the picture. I wanted to try to capture the reason why I love libraries so much. The rows of books. The worn jackets. The tired spines. I started snapping pictures, fussing with the various light settings. Finally settling on one I liked, I took this picture.

Onto full disclosure: clearly I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing. But here, I tried the use of an online editor to add a little depth to the picture. I tried this, undid, then tried that, rinse, repeat. I can’t remember exactly what I did here (two modifications) to get this picture here, but I like it. It wasn’t exactly what I was going for, but I don’t know exactly how I can pack the love of books and libraries into one simple shot. If I had natural lighting and dust motes I could probably give it a good run, but the year’s still young. 🙂

Smell that? That's books full of awesomeness right there!
